Big Mistake Number 1 – Wasn’t Me!

Sometimes life makes no sense…

One of the first and biggest mistakes I made was to discount the effect I have in my life.

I am the cause AND the effect.

But when the shite is hitting the fan and ricochets are flying low, it’s a tough call to count on your own capabilities to pull yourself out of the mire.

I had to stop fooling myself.

The hard times I am enduring were created by and for me. The life saving solution and implementation of it must come from me as well.

Yes, It’s All About ME!

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try! –  Dr. Seuss

Contrary to popular belief, it IS all about me and how aware I am of my desire and ability to influence outcomes in my life. No one cares more about me than I do and it is fairly arrogant of me to think for one second that anyone will do more for me than I can.

Personal awareness is a rare thing. Most people stumble through reality with little concept of their effect on themselves and others. I eat myself overweight, medicate myself into gray realities and occasionally treat other humans as if they have little value – even though I is one!

The minute I stopped blaming everyone else for my predicament was the turning point of my life. No longer did bad luck, demanding partners and overbearing customers have control of me.

Nope. Everything Looks Good!

Halt! Who Goes There?!

Today I look hard for the person responsible for creating challenges in my life and that is also where I find the dude who can rescue me from permanent turmoil.

You might want to salute this friend upon whom your salvation hangs because any willingness to recognize this hero’s talents will allow them to save us so much faster.

From that life altering point forward, you will begin your struggle with the unnerving fact that the majority of people suffer as unwitting participants in their own story.

But this ain’t the way it works for me now. Yes sir, I think I’ve figured out who’s pulling the strings in my life.

And these days I appreciate my good old buddy every chance I get.

Without knowing dude, I’m screwed. You, too.

Thank you, friend.

    Hi Barry,

Great blog, and I love this post. Taking responsibility is really important to succeed – and that means taking responsibiity for the mistakes and failures too. We can only learn from them if we accept our part in them.

    Enjoy the journey.
